GO GOAL GOLD!!! AJCO SYF COMPETITION

May 10th. The Judgment Day! After months of intensive CO practices in the AJCO room, AJCO's hard work has finally paid off. The 23rd batch AJCO (with the help of many JC1s - future 24th batch) has emerged victory. This is a special day for many of our AJCO alumni... And a overly exciting day for a weak-stomach person like me... Because of the long and treacherous waiting time from the morning till AJCO's turn, I got too excited that I had diarrhoea 4 times in SCH.

Arriving at Singapore Conference Hall at 8.20am in the morning with a few other alumni (i.e. Xiao Ting, Mervin and Peiling), the atmosphere was tense. AJCO was the first team in the afternoon session. The few of us was there since morning to see how much chance AJCO can get gold by comparing with other JC COs. I believe Mervin and Xiao Ting agree that AJCO will definitely get a gold at the end of the AM session SYF competition. I was even thinking whether AJCO can get the gold with honours.

Mervin, Fukang, Xiao Ting and I went into the tuning room with AJCO for preparation. Huang Sheng went through the set piece with them. GOSH... It was so nicely expressed by our dear juniors. In our minds, AJCO is DEFINITELY (plus chop plus guarantee) getting a GOLD.

Being the first to perform in the afternoon session, AJCO was seated on stage for around 5 mins to wait for the judges to make their grand entrance. The concert hall was silent as everyone was staring at AJCO. Well... They are professional. They sat there on stage without fidgeting (or maybe some of the were trembling but we can't see). Well well... and the first song went well... The second as well... One word to describe AJCO's musical impression - Serene (not you Serene) but as if the two musical pieces give some of us a very comfortable feeling. A sense of serenity. In our hearts, we were thinking (hearts dun think... nvm) that AJCO has a 50-50% chance of getting a gold with honours because unlike many other JCs' COs, AJCO was in excellent form on stage without making any major mistakes. For anyone who has seen the progress of AJCO, it is easy to feel SO SO SO proud of them. When a few weeks ago, AJCO was reprimanded by HS and AJCO was merely at the silver standard.

The ultimate moment came when the MC started to announce the results... I was sitting with the juniors.. Praying to whoever up there in the sky... Praying to Buddha, Kwanying, Allah, Jesus whoever or whatever... When TJCO got Gold with Honours... AJCO people cheered for them. We cheered for them though we know that two gold with honours have been given and chances of AJCO getting another one was slimmer... Number 10 - NJCO GOLD... Number 11 - AJCO GOLD................... (and we wait for the word - 'with honours' to be mentioned). Nope... Nothing... and the MC carry on with Number 12 RJC - GOLD etc etc...

Everyone around me went silent... a few of them clapped... Most went silent. Tears started forming in a few juniors' eyes as some of us were hoping to get the gold with honours especially when ACJC, VJC, NYJC, RJC, NJC got their gold awards as well. The feeling was really very sad and disappointed. For the few of us who has listened to all the JC's performances, we know that other than HC and TJ, AJC was the best. But... well... Maybe we are not up to the Gold With Honours standard.

TJCO started filling the concert hall with school cheers... NYJC as well... AJCO people were quietly leaving the concert hall. In SCH's concourse, many of the juniors started breaking into tears... Haiz... But I guess we have to be more positive, we 'score' a hat-trick. Three times consecutively GOLD... YEAH...

AJCO has matured. When Miss Chua (Bihe) was in AJCO, they were not really excited to know the results. They were more surprised than happy to have gotten a GOLD. Under Shumin (15th batch), we cried for getting a silver. We were disappointed. And it goes on and on until Jian en's batch. They got a GOLD and went into the finals. They screamed and cried with tears of joy. Under Matthew's leadership, AJCO clinched another GOLD with a few of them disappointed for not getting a GOLD with honours (though most of them are happy). Yesterday 10th of May, AJCO cried... Because they know that they can do better. A Gold with Honours was within reach. AJCO is no more the AJCO in the past. AJCO has progressed into another higher level. A gold with honours is not something only HC and TJCO can achieve. With the AJCO spirit, a gold with honours is a possible future achievement.

More importantly, members of AJCO has matured as well. When AJCO knew their results, one student said with tears falling down her cheek, "We are still happy (though sad) because at least one of Huang Sheng's COs (TJCO) got a Gold with Honours... We are happy for TJCO... We are happy for Huang Sheng". I am extremely impressed and touched by the words. This is how members of AJCO has matured over the span of time striving to be better. They are not sore losers. This is the way to move on... to strive for a better future for AJCO. We can be disappointed. But we will never give up. Its time to accept that AJCO still can improve and move on!!! =)

Last but not least, I guess AJCO and AJCAACO should not forget the unsung heroes. A big thank you to the two poor girls looking after the belongings of AJCO when AJCO were up on stage (Can someone from AJCO thank them since I don't even know their names? HAHA... Thanks). Thank you Miss Chua, Mrs Cheong, and Mr Goh for their efforts in grooming AJCO. Thank you Chen Laoshi for building a strong foundation for AJCO. Of course, with out Huang Sheng, AJCO would not have been so successful (as he was AJCO's conductor since 8th batch AJCO and now is already 23rd batch?) =D
